Hello,

I have been having intermittent problems with getting into x2go on RH6
machine. Recently, after update of x2go server and client, I am not having
any success in connecting. I saw the same message before but I was able
to connect after I tried multiple times (usually success rate about 10%).

The message is -

*X2Go - 52*
*The connection with the remove server was shut down. Please check the
state of your network connections.*

I updated x2go server with version *4.1.0.0 *using yum

I usually see this when there are stuck session files. Make sure you don't
have any processes running for that user.
Clean out ~/.x2go. You may also have to delete some stuff in /tmp.

I usually see this when there are stuck session files. Make sure you
don't have any processes running for that user.
Clean out ~/.x2go. You may also have to delete some stuff in /tmp.

Hello,
I have been having intermittent problems with getting into x2go on RH6

The logs from one of the previous mails show a crashing nxagent. Which is a
bug. Please run gdb against the coredump in the mentioned abrt directory
and post the output of gdb's bt command . We can then see where it crashes.

After running the command and cleaning /var/lib/x2go, I'm getting a
completely different message

Try running 'sudo pkill -u user'. After making sure the folders are
cleaned.
Also delete files in /var/lib/x2go/
But not the directory itself.

Thanks!
With the new errors about failed connection and x2gocheckport (see
screenshot in previous email), I can no longer generate core dump.
However, if I look at one of the older cored dumps, I get this -
Did you have a look at the abrt-cli command? It stroes coredumps in
some crash directory. So you might find some more.

Alright, looks like we have a bug in the xkb code. Fortunately there
is an upgrade to XKB 1.3 pending and will be merged soon (hopefully):
https://github.com/ArcticaProject/nx-libs/pull/717

Regarding your current problem I would say: reinstall all x2go
packages and retry.

Okay so after reinstall, I'm back to square 1.

But at least it helped identify a bug. Thanks for both of your help.

Unfortunately, I still need to get unstuck urgently ... deadline
approaching. Do you know any other system like x2go that's free or low
cost? I tried Xming but it's too slow to be useful. Thanks.

Alright, looks like we have a bug in the xkb code. Fortunately there

Thanks.
You can try compiling nxagent yourself, it is not that difficult. Use
that tree: https://github.com/uli42/nx-libs.git Branch pr/xkb_1.3.0.0

But what about RHEL7?

The crash happens ind XkbSendMap(). So I suspect some client in your
session asking nxagent for the xkb keyboard configuration. You can
look if you can disable that client. I suspect running a simple xterm
via x2go will not crash the session. Can you confirm?

Thanks Paul, 127.0.01 is in the /etc/hosts

127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost.localdomain localhost4
localhost4.localdomain4 localhost
::1 localhost.localdomain localhost.localdomain localhost6
localhost6.localdomain6 localhost

Thanks Uli

Unfortunately, the software I need to use do not support RHEL7 so we have
to stick with RHEL6.

I tried opening terminal, but still have some problems. I assume "single
application > terminal" is the way to do this.

Uli,

That did it!!!! SOLVED! Thanks sooo much for your help.

After looking at x2gosetkeyboard script for a while, I realized that there
was an option to manually set the keyboard in the preferences instead of
relying on auto-detect.

I was only able to connect 10% of the time on a good day; now I can
consistently connect every time. Note that this issue seems to only
happen with Windows client. My colleague working on the Mac client never
had this problem.

Thanks again!

Note that this issue seems to only happen with Windows client.   My
colleague working on the Mac client never had this problem.
Keyboard detection and setting on the Mac uses a different approach, as
$SOMETHING on the Mac side of things is brain-dead and broken, so our
usual approach for Windows and Linux doesn't work there.

Since xkb is something keyboard-related, maybe you could simply set
X2GoClient to not touch the keyboard settings? No guarantee that this
helps, but might be worth a try ...
Go to the "Input/Output" tab in the session configuration, section
"Keyboard", select "Do not configure keyboard". See if that helps.
If you're on a macOS client, that won't be available, though. But I
think your earlier screenshot came from Windows 10, so you might be in luck.
